What are common pest species in Raleigh?
Many different pest problems can trouble homes in Raleigh. There are several local pest species that often invade homes looking for food to eat and places to hide. If you've been having pest issues in your home, these are the usual suspects:
Rodents - Both mice and rats frequently infiltrate local homes to build nests and raid our food storage. Rodents are relentless gnawers that can cause a lot of damage to wiring and insulation, and they can also spread several diseases.
Cockroaches - One of the filthiest local pest species, cockroaches commonly infest kitchens, bathrooms, and storage areas of homes in Raleigh. The biggest problem with a roach infestation is that these pests can contaminate your food with salmonella and E. coli.
Ants - These opportunistic pests usually invade our homes in swarms to ransack our kitchen cupboards. Some species, like carpenter ants, can cause severe property damage; others, including fire ants, may be venomous.
Termites - Responsible for billions of dollars worth of property damage across the United States each year, termites are the last pests you want in your home. Termites will hollow out wooden walls, floors, and support structures by feeding on the cellulose within, compromising the structural integrity of your entire house.
Bed Bugs - Nothing causes insomnia faster than realizing bed bugs are hiding in your mattress and attacking you in your sleep. These microscopic pests often hitch a ride into homes on pre-owned furniture, luggage, and clothing.
Mosquitoes - Throughout most of the year, mosquito infestations are a major problem for homeowners in Raleigh. Mosquitoes will swarm in backyards, drinking our blood whenever we step outside, and potentially spreading diseases such as West Nile virus and encephalitis.
