Why do pests keep coming into my home?

It's an annoying situation that many of us have had to deal with; you discover ants swarming in the kitchen, you call a pest control company to get rid of them, then two weeks later more ants come marching in. When pests keep invading your home again and again, it can start to feel like you'll be stuck with them forever. Don't worry, that's probably not the case. Most likely, there are controllable factors which are attracting pests into your home in Raleigh.

In many cases, pest infestations happen because some type of pest - whether it's ants, roaches, rodents or something else - discovers that your home has a lot of food to munch on. Unfortunately, as soon as pests find out that your home is stocked with food, you'll have a hard time getting rid of them. If you've been noticing a lot of pest activity in your kitchen, try to keep it cleaner; sweep up crumbs, wipe down counters, wash your dishes every night, and throw out the garbage as often as possible.

Pests might also keep coming into your home in Raleigh because they're looking for water. A puddle outside your shower or a dripping pipe under a kitchen sink can quench the thirst of anything from a tiny sugar ant to a big roof rat. Any leaking pipes or drains can lure thirsty pests of all species into your home. Make sure to clean spills quickly and repair any leaks to stop inviting pests in.

And finally, your Raleigh home offers pests excellent shelter from both bad weather and the many predators that eat them. While there's not much you can do about that, you can make your home less inviting by doing your best to declutter it. Storage spaces like the attic, crawl space and garage often have a lot of clutter for pests to live in, and the bugs and rodents may then move onto the rest of your house. Decluttering these areas mitigates the risk of pests coming inside.
